goal
How to manually integrate GroupWise with Netscape Navigator/Communicator
fact
Novell GroupWise Enhancement Pack
Netscape Communicator 4.7x
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later.
symptom
Internet Browser Integration does not work with Netscape Navigator/Communicator.
After installing GroupWise Enhancement Pack client user still cannot click on 'mailto' link and send using GroupWise and Netscape.
Internet Explorer integrates this function just fine.
The documentation at http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/gw55ep/docui/index.html under 'What's new...' states: GroupWise Mail Sent From Your Browser: Users can set GroupWise to be their default e-mail program, so that whenever they click an e-mail link on a web page or choose the Mail command in their browser (Internet Explorer 3.x and higher, Netscape* Navigator 4.03-4.08), GroupWise opens. Internet Browser Mail Integration must be selected during GroupWise client installation. This integration can be uninstalled in the Windows* Control Panel. Open the Control Panel > double-click Add/Remove Programs. Click GroupWise Mailto Protocol Handler > Add/Remove > click OK twice.
fix
Steps to manually integrate GW with Netscape:
1. Make sure Netscape is fully closed
2. Copy the GWMLT1.DLL and GWMLTOUS.DLL files from the \SOFTWARE\CLIENT\WIN32\ADDONS\GWMAILTO directory to the \Netscape\Communicator\Program directory
3. Edit the \Netscape\Users\Default\prefs.js file and add the following two lines at the end of the file:
user_pref("mail.altmail_dll", "gwmlt1.dll");
user_pref("mail.use_altmail", true);
4. It may be necessary to reinstall the GroupWise client after making these changes.
