fact

Novell Client 4.7 for Windows NT/2000

Novell Client 4.6 SP2 for Windows NT

symptom

The client username field retains the last successfully logged in username.

fact

The Default Location Profile has "Save profile on exit" (4.6 Client) or "Save profile after successful login" (4.7 Client) unchecked.

fix

Unchecking the "Save profile on exit" (4.6 Client) or "Save profile after successful login" (4.7 Client) option should prevent the client username field from showing the last username that successfully logged in.

However, there has been at least one case where unchecking this option was not effective.  The following workaround was effective:

Workaround for 4.6 Client:
1.  Verify that the "Save profile on exit" option is left unchecked within the Default Location Profile settings in the client properties.

2.Delete the DontDisplayLastUserName key found at HKLM/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT/VCurrentVersion/WinLogon within the workstation's registry.

Workaround for 4.7 Client:
1.  Replace the workstation's copy of LOGINW32.DLL with version 3.05.00.

2.  Verify that the "Save profile after successful login" option is left unchecked within the Default Location Profile settings in the client properties.

3.  Delete the DontDisplayLastUserName key found at HKLM/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT/VCurrentVersion/WinLogon within the workstation's registry.
