symptom
Access violation in DHOST.EXE when trying to install NDS replica on NT server.
Dr. Watson in DHOST.EXE when installing an NDS replica on NT.
Error: "Domain Object Wizard The installation of the NDS replica has failed. Return code: -1073741819 More information can be found in the dsinstall.log file stored in the <path>\DIBFiles directory."
Error: "An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated. dhost.exe Exception: access violation (0x0000005) ..."
DSINSTALL.LOG may be empty.
cause
The SAP Agent uses some of the same resources that DS does. It needs to be shut down prior to installing a local DS replica on an NT server.
fix
Stop the SAP Agent service and re-launch Domain Object Wizard (SAMMIG.EXE). The SAP Agent service can be stopped by choosing Start, Settings, Control Panel, Services. Browse for the "SAP Agent" and click on the Stop button.
Customer may also just remove the Microsoft Windows NT Server "SAP Agent" service from the Network services tab. This service may have been explicitly added or may have been automatically added during the installation or RAS, routing services, or other applications.
There are design limitations which can prevent other applications from accessing SAP information when the SAP Agent service is installed.
