goal

Will NW 5.x, NW 6.0, or NW 6.5  DNS work as the DNS or Dynamic DNS (DDNS) server for a mixed NetWare / Windows 2000 network?

fact

Windows 2000 requires compliance with RFC 2136 (DNS dynamic update protocol) and RFC 2052 (SRV service resource records).

fix

DNS on NW 5.0 and 6.0 only supports dynamic DNS when talking to our DHCP server, not a Microsoft DHCP server. This is unlikely to change for now.

As far as the RR records are concerned, we support the following:

+ a, aaaa, afsdb, hinfo, isdn, x25, mb, mg, minfo, mr, mx, ns, ptr, px, rp, rt, srv, txt, wks

DNS for NW 6.5

We support both RFC2136 updates and NetWare DHCP updates in NetWare 6.5 server. But, we don't support any other updates if it's in some other format. Windows 2000 and 2003 follow RFC 2136 updates, so we do support updates from them in our NetWare 6.5 server.
