Container Login Script

symptom

Container login script is not running.

User Login Script runs but the Container login script does not run.

Container script will not run if the container is two levels above the user object.

change

The only change in the environment that was recognized was the install of NetWare 5 Support pack 4.0.

cause

The user object does not have the "read" right to the login script property value.

fix

Select the container, Trustees of this container, Effective rights, browse for the user object.  The user object should have browse object rights to the container.  Then select the Property Rights section and browse to the selected property called Login Script.  The user object should have read and browse property rights to the Login Script property.

Create a new container object and move the users from the bad container into it.

By default the container in which the user resides is the container script that will run.  In order to run a script that is further up the tree use the "Include" statement in the login script.    Usage: Include <context>.<object>.

This problem could also be caused by logging into a server that is missing the login script stream file for that container. This would be characterized by inconsistent login problems - sometimes it will login and sometimes not, depending on which server is hit during the login process and by whom. To get around this make an update to any script that is inconsistent and that will resend the stream file to all servers that should have it.
