fact
Formerly TID 2950627
Microsoft Windows NT (all versions)
Novell Client 4.6 SP2 for Windows NT
symptom
Error: "The workstation time could not be set"
The following error comes up with NT Client 4.60 in the results window of the login script:
"Login 4.21 15-310 : The workstation time could not be set"
Error: "Login 4.21 15-310 : The workstation time could not be set"
cause
This happens when the user is not a member of the NT Workstation Administrator group, but is a member of the NT Workstation Users group.
fix
Login has no control over this. The user must be at an administrative level or have equivalent rights to set this. The NT client itself has admin rights and DOES set the system correctly unless Set Station Time=off. Even with the above error, the time itself will still be changed to bring the workstation in line with the server. It is a cosmetic error and doesn't cause problems for the users.
If the Network Administrator does not want the user to even see the error, the right to change the system time can be granted in a user policy on the workstations from within User Manager.
