fact
Novell Application Launcher (NAL) 3.0
Novell ZENworks for Desktops 2
Application associated to workstation object
Application created using an .AOT file
symptom
Error:"Could not configure workstation for application [file name] ID=3"
Error: Unable to copy file [ file path.....] D018
Application works if associated to the user object.
cause
Because the application was being associated to the workstation object, it was searching for the file rights of the workstation object. The appropriate file rights to the path on the server were not granted.
fix
Grant the appropriate file rights to the workstation object(s) by doing the following:
1. In NWADMN32 find the object for the SYS volume, or whatever volume the program to be run exists on, and double click on that volume, and keep clicking until you have navigated to the directory where the program is.
2. Right click on that directory and go to "Details"
3. Click on the "Trustees of this directory" tab, then select the "Add trustee" button. The trustee to be added are the workstation objects for the machine(s) that will be affected.
NOTE: If there are lots of workstation objects then workstation group can be created. Add all the workstation objects as members of it, then go back to steps 1-3 and add this group as a trustee to the directory with Read / Filescan rights.
