goal
How to apply access control rules to a web server accelerator?
symptom
After setting up an accelerator and creating access control rules for this doesn't seem to have any effect. The 'enforce access rules' box is checked. Authentication is disabled since access control should be based on ip addresses.
cause
Access control rules for a web server accelerator do not take effect unless the 'enable authentication for the particular accelerator' is checked in the details of the http acceslerator setup. Since authentication is not needed, the authentication context dialog does not need to be configured, nor authentication needs to be enabled there. But the 'enable authentication for ...' in the details of the http accelerator configuration needs to be checked for the access control rules to be working. You can setup access rules for both the source of the request (usually an ip address) or the destination (usually a URL to restrict access to certain sub directories on the accelerator).
