symptom
Error: STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}.
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of
0xc0000000 (0x00000000 0x0000000)
The system has been shutdown.
A Windows NT Server or a Windows NT Workstation may stop with the message above.
Blue screen occurs on shutdown, restart, or shutdown/login new user
Having Installed LAN WorkPlace Pro 5.1 for Windows NT 4.0 with the Client 32 4.6.202 Client, you have enabled the NFS Client, upon restarting the Workstation all seems to reboot fine. Then you choose to install the latest Support pack for the Client 32 ( NT46SP2.exe) after doing so you reboot and receive the message above under ( Symptoms) everytime you reboot.
change
Applied NT46SP2.exe patch on the Windows NT Client
cause
If the NFS Client is loaded first( prior to Client32 or LAN MAN) then this error will occur.,
It appears the Network Provider Order is a Major factor. Refer to registry key:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order\ProviderOrder=
When ProviderOrder=FTCNFSClient,NetWareWorkstation,LanmanWorkstation, The blue screen will occur upon shutdown.
If, the user disconnects from all NetWare servers first (net'hood, netware connection, detach all servers), then the blue screen will not occur (if no NT server connections). If there are NT server connections, the blue screen will occur, unless those connections are also detached prior to shutdown.
When ProviderOrder=NetWareWorkstation,LanmanWorkstation,FTCNFSClient, The blue screen will NOT occur, regardless of the other server connections. These conditions occur with the NFS client enabled. They do NOT require NFS mounts for these conditions to occur. Only that the NFS client be enabled. When the NFS client is enabled, it places itself first in this ProviderOrder list.
fix
Reinstall the support packs, this will cause the registry to change and the load order will change.
