fact
NetWare Administrator 32 (NWADMN32.EXE)
Formerly TID 2926081
symptom
Home Directory not working via Login Script.
When logging in some users don't get the correct mappings.
An error occurs that they can not find the variable %Home Directory.
Some users in the same container with the same setup work just fine.
%CN does not work either.
%Login Name does work.
cause
Basic trustees are lost to the user. The trustees of the users that don't work are gone.
fix
Manually assign the trustee rights back to the user. Comparison of a user that works with one that does not will show the difference.
The trustees that could be needed for a problem user object are as follows:
[All Property] R <Username>
[Object Rights] B [Root]
Default Server R [Public]
Group Membership R [Root]
Login Script RW <Username>
NetWork Address R [Root]
Print Job Configuration RW <Username>
Deleting and recreating the users also work.
NWADMN32 will allow trustee rights to be added back in a somewhat wholesale fashion using the Details on Multiple Users option from the Object menu. Suppose it is necessary to assign the All Property R right and the Object Rights B right for 3 users (assume User1, User2, and User3). Here are the steps:
1- Highlight User1, User2, and User3 by holding down <ctrl> and clicking on the users one at a time.
2- With the users highlighted, click on the Object menu and select Details on Multiple Users.
3- Click on the Rights to Other Objects tab and <User's rights to self> will be highlighted in window.
4- Modify so that All Properties is selected and place a check only in the Read box under Property rights.
5- Click on the Add Assignment tab and browse to the Root object, select it and click on OK.
6- Modify so that the Browse object right only has a check in it's box.
7- Click on OK tab at the bottom of the window.
