fact
Novell Client 4.6 SP2 for Windows NT
Novell NetWare 5.0
Novell Client 3.1 for Windows 95/98
NetWare 5.1
symptom
TCPIP significantly slower than IPX
Performance problems since upgrading to Pure IP
cause
An intermediate device is dropping packets. IPX survives this because it is connectionless. IP is slower because it is connection-oriented and does not continue processing packets until the unreceived packets have been retransmitted.
fix
Make sure the card, driver, hardware and all intermediate devices are functioning properly. Be careful that there is not a mismatch between half and full duplex. See Half or Full Duplex for more information.
