goal
3rd party certificate with SSL on Novell BorderManager 3.0
fact
Novell BorderManager 3.0
symptom
Can't get a 3rd party certificate to work with SSL on BorderManager 3.0
fix
Complete the following steps:
1. Select the Security Object and create a Certificate of Authority
2. Select the OU of the BM server | create a Key Material Object | Custom | enter Key Pair Name | choose the key size | Custom Name | .CN=www.acme.com.O=acme.ST=State.C=Country | External CA | Next and Finish | which will produce a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) which goes to the external certificate makers.
3. In this example I used Versign (the 14 day trial), filled out the forms, submitted the request. IMPORTANT: on the last ACCEPT I did "Save Target As" (using IE). Paste this the *.crt file into the Trusted Root in the details of the Key Material Object into the clipboard under the Import command bottom in details of the Key Material Object (KMO).
4. Once you receive the Certificate from the Third party Vendor (via email, etc) go to the details of the KMO and import the Certificate under the Public Key Certificate.
5. Select the BM server | details | BM setup | Authentication Context | select the KMO from the drop down box under SSL
