Novell GroupWise 5.2
symptom
Tobit Fax Gateway and GroupWise
fix
The following information has been used to enable GroupWise to use the fax gateway from Tobit:
Solution 1:
They had their ISP add a "bogus" A - record to their DNS (it's masked off from the general public). This is the DNS server listed first in RESOLV.CFG on the server running GWIA. After that, they put in the correct "local host name" of mailgate.company.com into the system configuration of the Tobit mailgate.
The "local host name" was the key to making it work, without that, Tobit's Mailgate did not know its name of "mailgate.company.com" which accounted for the GWIA error messages. GWIA was reporting 503 errors when trying to send faxes via GWIA.
When sending a fax through GWIA, it hits GWIA, goes out to DNS and comes right back to the Tobit mailgate which sends out the fax via a modem attached to the server.
Solution 2:
a. Create a 4.x External Foreign Domain and link it to the FaxServe gateway. You can create the link from the GroupWise view and right clicking on the 4.x External Foreign Domain and choosing Link Configuration and setting the Link Type to Gateway and selecting the FaxServer gateway. When you close the Link Configuration menu you will be prompted to save changes, if you haven't already saved the changes. Save the changes and proceed to the next step.
b. Create the following addressing rule as the last rule in the list.
Search String:
*@*-*
Replacement String:
domain_name.faxserve:%1@%2-%3
We found that apparently FaxServe requires the phone number to have a dash '-', even though the FaxServe gateway strips it out before the fax is sent.
