fact

Novell GroupWise 5.5

Novell GroupWise 32-bit Client

Microsoft Windows 98

symptom

Error installing the GroupWise client

Error:" _INS0432 caused an invalid page fault in KERNEL32.DLL"

Error: "GWSETUP has encountered an error in _INS0432.DLL"

Error occurs when registering GWCMB1.DLL at 63% of the process

cause

The problem is that if NETWIN32.DLL is present, the install assumes that the IntranetWare client has been installed.  However, this file can be present even if the IntranetWare client has never been installed.

fix

Rename NETWIN32.DLL

1) Rename the NETWIN32.DLL located in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory to NETWIN32.OLD.
2) Install GroupWise.
3) Rename the NETWIN32.OLD file back to NETWIN32.DLL.
4) Reboot the machine.

Also has been corrected by recopying the MAPI32.DLL file from Windows CD or CAB files to the windows/system directory.

cause

Processes that Windows loads when it starts up can interfere with the client install, causing it to crash, even if NETWIN32.DLL is not present.

fix

Clear out all auto-launched processes.  There are several places where Windows can load programs on startup.
1.  The startup folder in the start menu
2.  WIN.INI can contain statements "LOAD=<filename>"
3.  The system registry has several different keys, which are named differently depending on if the machine is Windows 95 or 98.  They will be called "Run", "Services", or "RunServices".  These keys can be found at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
