CDROM.NLM is a conversion utility, supplied by Novell, that converts data stored on CD-ROM media in the High Sierra/ISO-9660 format to NetWare file system compatible data. The CDROM.NLM module can interact with any device driver that can convert CD-ROM based 2 KB sectors to NetWare compatible sectors.
ASPICD.DSK module is a driver to allow SCSI CD-ROM drives attached to an Adaptec SCSI host bus adapter to work with the CDROM.NLM.
CDNASPI.DSK is a (Generic) ASPI CD-ROM driver module. CDNASPI.DSK is no longer available from or supported by them as of 2/97. (It is optional depending on hardware and drivers being used.)
CDNASPI.DSK is "generic" because it does not make a specific reference to the ASPITRAN.DSK (Adaptec ASPI module) as the ASPICD.DSK driver does. The CDNASPI.DSK module can be tried with your host bus adapter as long as your host bus adapter's manufacturer provides a NetWare ASPI interface module.
PS2OPT.DSK a general purpose device driver for IBM SCSI Adapter. It contains everything required by the CDROM.NLM to access CD-ROM devices attached to the IBM SCSI Adapter. It is an example of an all-in-one disk driver supplied with NetWare 3.12.
The CDROM.NLM only requires a driver that converts CD-ROM sectors (2 KB) in NetWare compatible sectors. As long as your CD-ROM drive interface board's manufacturer provides such a driver, then NetWare 3.12 should be able to access the CD-ROM device as a NetWare file system device.
The drivers that provide this functionality will vary from vendor to vendor. In many cases, there will be two drivers, one to drive the host bus adapter and one to provide the CD-ROM interface routines for NetWare. Some NetWare disk drivers have the host bus adapter driver and the CD-ROM interface routines linked into one module. You will simply need to load the proper
host bus adapter module to allow the CDROM.NLM to access devices with this combined module design. One driver known to provide everything needed for the CDROM.NLM in one file is PS2OPT.DSK (supplied with NetWare 3.12).
Example: CDROM.NLM (High Sierra/IS0-9660 module), ASPICD.DSK (Adaptec CD-ROM Driver via ASPI calls), ASPITRAN.DSK (Adaptec ASPI Interface Module), AHA1740.DSK or AHA1540.DSK or AIC7770.DSK (Adaptec Host Bus Adapter Driver)
If you are using a SCSI host bus adapter, you will need to obtain the proper drivers from the manufacturer of the SCSI host
bus adapter. Typically this means getting a NetWare host bus adapter driver, a NetWare ASPI driver and a NetWare CD-ROM ASPI interface module.
Novell has provided a text file that may be of assistance with SCSI type installations. This file is located on the OracleWare for NetWare CD-ROM with the following file name: \NETWARE.312\ENGLISH\README\HELP.CD
Because a conflict can occur between the DOS host bus adapter drivers, DOS CD-ROM drivers and the NetWare disk drivers, only a portion of the install can be done accessing the CD-ROM drive as a DOS device. After NetWare 3.12 has been booted and the NetWare disk driver has been loaded for the host bus adapter, you must be able to mount the CD-ROM drive as a NetWare device to successfully copy the NetWare SYSTEM and PUBLIC files along with the OracleWare product files.
Only the initial portion of the NetWare install, that copies the NetWare 3.12 files to the server's DOS partition, can be done
by accessing the CD-ROM drive through its DOS device drivers. After booting into NetWare, you must access the CD-ROM as a NetWare volume through the NetWare drivers appropriate for your CD-ROM drive. Please review the HELP.CD file for complete details.
