The concept to removing a secondary domain is to remove all the objects/subordinates it owns from the bottom up.   In order to successfully delete the domain all the subordinates have to be deleted first.  This is true for either of the two methods listed.  Agent communication and the order of unloading the agents can contribute to failure or inability to delete the domain object.  The first method simply contains the specifics of this process.

First Way:
Scenario:  Primary domain name = Dom1, the name of the secondary to be deleted is Dom4, Dom4 has 1 GWIA and 1 post office, and 1 library, the post office has 100 users, 10 resources, 2 distribution lists

Steps to remove Dom4:
1.)    All the agents for Dom4 need to be up and running, the agents need to be communicating between the primary Dom1 and Dom4.  The POA for the post office owned by Dom4 needs to up and running.
2.)    Connect to domain to be deleted (Dom4 in this case)
3.)    Delete the Library (Caution: if there any documents that still exist and are needed Move them out of the library before removing it.  Once the library has been deleted the documents cannot be accessed.)
4.)    Delete the Resources
5.)    Delete the Distribution Lists
6.)    Delete the users
7.)    Delete the POA object (the POA needs to be running), give it a couple of minutes to propagate the change.  If you connect to the Primary domain and it shows from it's perspective the POA is gone then you are ok to continue.
8.)    Unload the POA
9.)    Delete the Post Office object
10.)  Delete the GWIA (gateway) object answer yes to delete the gateway directory
11.)  Delete the MTA object (the MTA should still be running)
12.)  Connect to the Primary domain, unload Dom4's MTA, highlight Dom4 and delete the object.  If you have multiple domains and have a meshed network (where every domain can connect directly to every other domain) you may have to connect to each and every domain, go into Link Configuration and in Outbound Links move the domain to be deleted to the Undefined column (save the changes) before you can delete the secondary domain.

Second way:

Make sure there are no indirect links for the domain and post office you are deleting, and make sure there are no pending operations for the domain or post office. Then proceed with
1. Connect to primary domain.
2. Highlight secondary domain.
3. Select TOOLS | GROUPWISE UTILITIES | SYSTEM MAINTENANCE | RELEASE SECONDARY.
4. Follow wizard prompts.
5. Select TOOLS | GROUPWISE SYSTEM OPERATIONS | EXTERNAL SYSTEM SYNCHRONIZATION and delete the record for the domain that has been released.
6. Delete agents, gateways,  post offices, etc., (all subordinate objects) and then domain
7. Bring down the agents for the deleted domain.
8. Delete directory structure.
