All messages received from the GWIA will contain the header attachment.
Newer Internet e-mail clients like Communicator and Outlook send the message body in multiple parts so they can use HTML as their message format. Traditionally the SMTP/MIME gateway and the GWIA have broken multi-part messages up and stored the body in one place and the attachments in another. Unfortunately, when these HTML messages are broken in parts, the HTML portion of the message gets put in an attachment and is effectively lost to GroupWise recipients.

To provide backward compatibility as well as add support for the HTML message format, the /attachmsg switch was introduced. When used, GWIA still breaks the message up into a body and attachments, but then creates an additional attachment called MIME.822 that contains the Internet message in its entirety.

The 5.5 versions of GroupWise WebAccess and the GroupWise 32-bit client* have been enhanced to look for HTML formatted messages in this attachment and display them. Also, if this attachment exists, GWIA sends it to IMAP and POP clients instead of sending the traditional GroupWise message, thus allowing them to see messages in their preferred format.

Because of the recent wide use of the HTML message format in the industry, the /attachmsg switch is default when GWIA 5.5 is installed. If you do not need to view messages created in HTML format, remove this switch from the GWIA.CFG and GWIA will no longer create the MIME.822 attachment. A file containing only the Internet Header will be attached instead.

Note: The 32 bit client can only display HTML messages if the active-X HTML viewer components that come with Internet Explorer have been installed.
