Novell GroupWise 5.1
Novell GroupWise 5.2
Novell GroupWise 5.5
Novell GroupWise 32-bit Client
Microsoft Windows 98
cause
In a clean install of Microsoft Windows 98 (not over an existing Microsoft Windows 95 installation), the Microsoft Windows Messaging System (MAPI) is not installed. The GroupWise 32 bit client install will auto-detect this fact during install and will attempt to install the MAPI system by accessing the Microsoft Windows 95 CD. However, the MAPI system has been moved to a different location on the Microsoft Windows 98 CD, causing the GroupWise 32 bit client install to fail in its attempt to install MAPI
fix
Manually install the MAPI system from the Microsoft Windows 98 CD
To do so, they must run:, <Microsoft Windows 98 CD>\TOOLS\OLDWIN95\MESSAGE\US\WMS.EXE
This self-extracting executable will install the MAPI subsystem (and will also install MS Exchange Inbox and MS Exchange Post Office)
NOTE: Support Pack 4 for GroupWise 5.2 (when released) will address this problem
In some situations, the MAPI system was installed as described above, the attempt to install GroupWise 5.2 returned a PAGE FAULT error on WMSFR32.DLL.
The GroupWise installation still tried to continue but returned the original error on its attempt to install MAPI
The MAPI32.DLL in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory was found to be only 29KB, so we deleted all MAPI files (MAPI*.*) from the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and reinstalled MAPI from the <Microsoft Windows 98 CD>\TOOLS\OLDWIN95\MESSAGE\US\WMS.EXE (which installed a MAPI32.DLL that was approximately 700KB). GroupWise then installed without error
