symptom

Move user from one post office to another in secondary domain did not work.

Move had not completed, administrator deleted and recreated the GroupWise account.

fix

To restore a deleted GroupWise account:
1. Have all users archive any mail received since the last backup (anything they want to save).
2. Restore GroupWise system from backup (domain and post office directories). The deleted user should be able to login and see all of their mail.

A less painful way to restore an account is as follows: (This procedure does not cause inconvenience to other users).

1. Restore the user's post office to a temporary location from backup.
2. Connect to the temporary post office as the deleted user.
3. Archive all of the user's mail.
4. Create a brand new account for the user, and note the FID for the newly created user.
5. Use the GroupWise 5.x Archive FID Editor to make the FID on the archive match the FID for the newly created user.
6. Open the archive in the new account and bring all the old mail into the new account. The user is now restored.

Note: This procedure also works for deleted resources, with a slight twist. In order to archive the items for a resource, it is necessary to log in as the owner of the resource and then proxy into the resource.

In GroupWise 6.5 the administrator can use deleted user restore utility in ConsoleOne to restore the user's account information, and then have the user connect to a backup area to restore the mail/calendar items.
