fix
To move a domain or post office to a new server
1. Shut down ALL GroupWise NLMs and ALL gateways
2. Copy the domain and post office directory structures to be moved
3. Copy the software distribution directory if this is to be moved
4. Install GroupWise snapins to the new server (if they don't already exist)
a. Run the GroupWise installation
b. Extend the NDS Schema
c. At the list of GroupWise componants to install, select only "Administration Files"
d. Allow the installation to complete
5. Connect to the moved domain database
a. Launch NWADMN32.EXE or console one if running GroupWise 6 (You will be prompted for the location of the domain, point to the new server location)
b. Select Tools | GroupWise System Operations | System Connection, browse to the new domain database location, then select Connect | close.
6. Graft the domain and post office objects into the new tree (for detailed instructions on graft process see * below)
a. Select the NDS container (organizational unit) you want the domain to reside in
b. Select Tools | GroupWise Utilities | GW / NDS Association | Graft GroupWise Objects
c. Complete the graft wizard, follow all instructions in the wizard closely
7.Change the UNC paths for the domain or postoffice objects to reflect the new directory location on the new server
a. The UNC path is in the details of the domain and post office objects
8. Install the GroupWise NLMs to the new server
a. Run INSTALL.EXE from the <software distribution directory>\Agents directory
b. Follow the install wizard, when asked, specify the new locations of the domain and post office
9. Update the network address of each POA and MTA that are affected by the move. Also check the log settings for each agent to make sure they don't specify a log path which references the old server.
10. Load the NLMs at the new server console
(NOTE: These steps only applicable to systems that have not implemented GroupWise Document Management utilizing GroupWise 5.x libraries.)
* To graft a GW system into a new NDS tree (for this solution, we will call the old tree "OLD_TREE" and the new one NEW_TREE"):
1. For all users who have a GW account, create NDS users in NEW_TREE exactly as they existed in OLD_TREE (user "jdoe" in the OLD_TREE should be created as user "jdoe" in NEW_TREE)
2. In NWADMIN, click on Tools | GroupWise System Operations | System Connection and connect to the domain which will be grafted into NEW_TREE
3. From the NDS view in NWADMIN select a container (Organization Unit) , click on Tools | GroupWise Utilities | Graft GroupWise Objects
4. Choose "Domains, post offices and gateways" and follow prompts to graft GW 5.x objects into the desired NDS context. A window will pou-up which says "The domain GW_DOM (or whatever your domain name is) is located in the OLD_TREE tree. Are you sure you want to graft these objects into the NEW_TREE tree?" Choose "Yes"
5. When selecting the NDS context for the domain and post offices, a window will pop up saying "GW_DOM.OLD_TREE is not a valid object name..." Click OK and choose the context in the new tree where the GW objects will be placed.
6. When prompted "Would you like to graft more GroupWise objects?" choose "Yes" and choose "Users, resources and distribution lists." and follow the prompts to graft GW users and match their GW accounts with NDS user objects in NEW_TREE. (Note: Prior to GroupWise 5.2 you could not graft a GroupWise system in to a new tree)
