Issue
In order to run arcserve 5.x on a netware sft level III 3.11 server, the server must be at least a 20 user version with at the least 16 meg of ram. Arcserve should be version 5.01d or later and it must be at least a 20 user version as well.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. It is recommended that arcserve be loaded on the primary io engine. The reason for this is that the secondary ioengine spends all of its cpu time mirroring the primary io engine and helps with disk read requests. If the primary io engine goes down, and then comes back up as the secondary, type RESTART (after mirroring is complete) on the current primary io engine to force it to become the secondary.
2. Use the "set new start address for unclaimed memory block=8388608" command in both the primary and secondary io engine's iostart.ncf file. The reason for this is when arcserve is loaded it does not have to borrow memory from the msengine since all memory below the start address for unclaimed memory belongs to the ioengine. This must be located before "activate server" if this is called in the iostart.ncf.
3. The SET parameter REPLY TO GET NEAREST SERVER must be set to ON in both ioengines, otherwise arcserve will fail to login with a FAILED TO EXAMINE STATE SEMAPHORE message.
4. Supervisor must not have any login restrictions. Arcserve nlms loaded in the ioengine that use clib will login to the server as supervisor so that they can access the msengine. These are valid user connections and will affect the number of workstations that will be able to login. Because of this, it is common to see multiple connections for user supervisor, even if supervisor has logged in only once from a w/s. . If supervisor does have restrictions, FAILED TO EXAMINE STATE SEMAPHORE may appear.
5.The following patches must be loaded in the msengine: (can load in msauto.ncf)
msshim v1.02 11/9/93
patchman v2.41 3/24/94
ipxrcvfx v1.01 3.22.94
6. The astart.ncf file must be modified before it is loaded on the ioengine.
Add the following modules:
load sys:\system\pm311io v1.30 2/4/94
load sys:\system\iipxrcfx v1.00 2/4/94
load sys:\system\scrpndfx v1.00 6/22/94
load sys:\system\spxsft2 v3.01 6/22/94
load sys:\system\iodai v1.00 6/10/93
load sys:\arcserve\nlm\arc_sft3 v1.00 9/20/93
load sys:\system\btrvstub v6.10b 8/27/93
load sys:\system\brouter v6.10b 8/27/93
REM the following lines:
;load sys:\system\btrieve
;load sys:\system\bspxcom
If you are using the evaluation version of arcserve change the following line:
load sys:arcserve\nlm\arcserve to load sys:arcserve\nlm\arcserve -v
7. use CLIB.NLM version 3.12d or later.
8.If aspitran.dsk is loaded it must be version 1.1 or later.
9. Starting arcserve:
type BSTART in the msengine.
type ASTART in the ioengine.
10. Backup and restore with SMS logic . To use sms logic, use the latest smdr and tsa 311 files for 3.1x netware. Also the switch USE SMS LOGIC FOR DOS AND MAC FILES should be set to ON in the arcserve scheduler screen under "configuration"
The smdr.nlm must be loaded in both the ioengine and the msengine. Tsa311 must be loaded in the msengine if the host server is also the target server.
