1.0 Installation

- Section 1.1, Prerequisites

- Section 1.2, Pre-Installation Checklist

- Section 1.3, Installation

- Section 1.4, Un-Installation

1.1 Prerequisites

The server must already be running eDirectory 8.8
Support Pack 5.

1.2 Pre-Installation Checklist

- Run a health check on the tree to make sure
that there are no current problems with this
or any other server in the tree.

- Make a backup of the server's eDirectory dib
and NICI files. Among other methods this can
be done by stopping the eDirectory service and
backing up the dib directory to backup the
eDirectory database. (Default Location:
c:\novell\nds\dibfiles).

To backup the NICI files, it is best to use a
SMS tape backup whose software runs as SYSTEM.
More information is available found at Novell
Documentation
(http://www.novell.com/documentation/nici27x/n
ici_admin_guide/index.html?page=/documentation/
nici27x/nici_admin_guide/data/bwf6d4c.html).

- Ensure that this server has eDirectory 8.8
Support Pack 5 installed.

1.3 Installation

1. Copy this update to a temporary directory on
the server being patched. For example,
"C:\PATCHES".

2. Extract the file.

By default, a directory "edir885_p3_win"
is created. Within this directory are the
setup files for 32 bit and 64 bit installations.
(for 32-bit) / edir8853_x64_setup (for
64-bit) is created. The ".exe" file is
availble in this directory.

3. Close the NDS Services window if it is open.

NOTE: eDirectory services will be
automatically stopped during patch
installation and restarted after the
installation.

4. Run the following:

32-bit:edir8853_x86_setup.exe
or
64-bit:edir8853_x64_setup.exe

5. Follow the prompts.

6. Bringing up NDSConsole - ds.dlm - Configure
should now display a Build Version of
20503.15.

The patch installation log is located in the
eDirectory install directory. For example,
"C:\Novell\NDS\edir8853_x86.log".

1.3.1 Optional Instrumentation Installation

NOTE: This eDirectory patch contains an
eDirectory instrumentation patch,
eDirectoryInstrumentation-win-8.8.5.zip.
This instrumentation patch should not be
installed if auditing is not being used. To
install this patch, please perform the following:

1. Extract the "eDirectoryInstrumentation-win-8.8.5.zip"
file for 32-bit Instrumentation.
(There is no instrumentation for 64 bit.)
A Novell directory is created.

2. Using NDScons, stop "nauditds.dlm".

3. Copy "Novell\NDS\nauditds.dlm" to the
"C:\Novell\NDS" directory (or to any
directory where eDirectory is installed).

4. Copy "Novell\NDS\ediraudit.sch" to the
"C:\Novell\NDS" directory (or to any
directory where eDirectory is installed).

5. Using NDScons, start "nauditds.dlm".

1.4 Un-Install

1. Stop Novell eDirectory and SNMP Services.

2. Close the NDS Services window if it is open.

3. Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.

4. In the Add or Remove Programs window, select
Novell_eDirectory Patch to run the
un-install.

5. Follow the instructions to complete the
un-install.

NOTE: If services are not stopped, the
un-install might seem to happen
successfully, but the files will not be restored
properly.

To remove the patch manually, go to the backup
directory created in the eDirectory installation
directory ("C:\Novell\NDS\EDIRBACKUP8.8.5.3") and
follow the given steps:

1. Ensure dhost and snmp are stopped using Taskmanager.
Close the NDSConsole eDirectory services window.

2. Copy "Program Files" and "Windows" to the
drive where Windows is installed and copy the
"Novell" directory to the location where
eDirectory is installed.
