- Section 1.1, Prerequisites
- Section 1.2, Pre-Installation Checklist
- Section 1.3, Installation
1.1 Prerequisites
The server must be running eDirectory 8.8 Support
Pack 5. The "DS.NLM" version should be "20219.15"
or later. This can be verified by typing m ds at
the server console.
1.2 Pre-Installation Checklist
This patch can only be applied to eDirectory 8.8
SP5. This patch assumes the server is using the
latest supported NetWare Operating System and
support packs as listed in the product
documentation.
- Run a health check on the tree to ensure that
there are no current problems with this or any
other server in the tree.
- Make a backup of the server's eDirectory database.
Among other methods this can be done by typing
" dsrepair -rc " at the server console.
- Make a backup of the NICI files. First unload
DS.NLM and backup all files and directories
within the SYS:\SYSTEM\NICI directory.
1.3 Installation
1. Copy this update to a temporary directory on
the server being patched. For example,
"SYS:\PATCHES".
2. Extract the files.
3. Load "NWCONFIG.NLM" at the server console
prompt. For example, LOAD NWCONFIG.
4. Select Product Options.
5. Select Install a product not listed.
6. Press F3 to specify a different path.
7. Enter the path to the IPS file in the NetWare
directory. For example,
"SYS:\PATCHES\EDIR885_p3".
8. Press Enter and follow the prompts.
NOTE: If you are redirected to the console
prompt, press control+escape and then select
the NWCONFIG screen to continue.
9. After the installation, you must reboot the
server (Reset Server) to load all updated
modules. A complete Reset must occur or the
database may not load properly.
10. Once the server comes up you should then
observe that the updated "DS.NLM" has been
loaded. Typing (m ds) at the console prompt
should return a version of 20503.15.
NOTE: This patch installation script does not
work in case of a long namespace directory or
if the directory name contains a space in it.
If you receive a message that this is the
second attempt to copy the files, simply
select "Copy all files again".
1.3.1 Optional Instrumentation Installation
NOTE: This eDirectory patch contains the
eDirectory instrumentation patch, the
"eDirectoryInstrumentation-nw-8.8.5.zip" file.

server.
