abstract

This patch for ZCM 10.2.2 contains msi and rpm imaging modules that fix a problem where Windows 7 Devices do not come up after restoring a ZENworks image (only with sysprep) - See TID 7005153.

details

Overview:
After running sysprep on a windows 7 device, take a ZENworks image and restore it on another device. After restoring the image the OS does not boot. The problem is due to sysprep and ZENworks both changing the Boot Configuration Datastore "BCD" file. With this patch ZENworks will detect if sysprep is run and not modify the BCD file.

System Requirements:
The fix is applicable only on ZCM 10.2.2

Installation:
Windows Server:
- Install each msi provided in the patch from the command line using the following syntax:
msiexec /i novell-zenworks-xxxx.msi TARGETDIR="C:\Program Files"

The TARGETDIR property needs to be changed based on the install location of ZENworks. For example if ZENworks is installed at E:\Novell\Zenworks you need to set the TARGETDIR parameter as TARGETDIR="E:\"

- Replace all the existing MSI's with similar names (the version string will match till 10.2.2) in the %ZENWORKS_HOME%/install/downloads/msi folder with those provided with this patch. Removing all older MSIs from this folder is recommended.

- Replace all the existing RPM packages with similar names (the version string will match till 10.2.2) in the %ZENWORKS_HOME%/install/downloads/rpm folder with those provided with this patch. Removing all older RPM packages from this folder is recommended.

Linux Server:
- Install each rpm provided from the linux command line using the following syntax:
rpm -Uvh novell-zenworks-xxx.rpm

- Replace all the existing MSI's with similar names (the version string will match till 10.2.2) in the /opt/novell/zenworks/install/downloads/msi folder with those provided with this patch. Removing all older MSIs from this folder is recommended.

- Replace all the existing RPM packages with similar names (the version string will match till 10.2.2) in the /opt/novell/zenworks/install/downloads/rpm folder with those provided with this patch. Removing all older RPM packages from this folder is recommended.

Windows/Linux Satellite Server:
After updating the primary servers, the satellite servers need to be demoted from the imaging role and promoted again. This will install the updated packages.
