abstract

details

Overview: Product Recognition Update for ZENworks 7.5 Asset Management

System Requirements: System Requirements: See System Requirements for ZENworks 7.5 Asset Mangement Installation Documentation

Installation: This update must be extracted near the root of the drive, because it contains directory paths that could exceed the DOS limits.

Only an enterprise administrator can manage PRUs. The inventory process must be stopped before installing the PRU. Novell recommends that you perform this procedure between inventory cycles (when collections are not taking place). Not only is it faster to stop the inventory process when workstations are not being scanned, but also the new product data will then be available to all workstations during their next inventory cycle.

Note: The process of applying the PRU may take up to an hour depending on your system and network traffic.

After you download the PRU, extract the PRU files to a folder to which you have access from the ZENworks Asset Management Manager.

In the ZENworks Asset Management Manager, shut down the inventory process from the Control menu.

Click on the Administration menu, and then click on Product Recognition Update.

In the Apply Product Recognition Update dialog, specify the path to the PRU files.

Click on the Apply button.

After the process of applying the PRU has completed, then start the inventory process again.

Microsoft and Image Viewing / Editing
-----

Wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2010. Are you prepared for your next
Microsoft true-up or to track the usage of image viewing and editing products
in the corporate desktops after the holidays?

The January ZENworks Product Recognition Update (PRU) contains a slew of
updates to Microsoft products so that you will have a complete view of product
installations and usage for your next renewal. Highlights include titles such
as: Microsoft Office 2010 Beta, Visio, Project and SharePoint Designer Tools.
Along with the Microsoft products we have also updated the recognition
capabilities for the image viewing, editing and screen capture applications
from manufacturers like AMS Software, ACS Soft Solutions, DreamLight and VicMan.

And its easy to run reports of all of your Microsoft software. In ZENworks
10 Configuration Management SP2 or in stand-alone ZENworks 10 Asset Management
SP2, click the ZENworks Reporting Server InfoView link under the Reports tab
to launch the newly-designed ZENworks reporting engine. From there, create a
new Web Intelligence Document, browse to the Inventory/Software and Hardware
