Installation:
This field patch replaces the Core Driver for Fan-Out 3.6 along with platform services for Linux and Unix. If you do not run the platform services for Linux and Unix you may skip that section.
Updating the Fan-Out Core Driver on Linux and Solaris
-----------------------------------------------------
1. Stop the Fan-Out Driver shim:
/etc/init.d/asamcdrv stop
2. Run the self-extracting installer:
sh linux_x86_coredriver_install.bin (for 32-bit Linux OS)
sh linux_x86_64_coredriver_install.bin (for 64-bit Linux OS)
sh solaris_sparc_coredriver_install.bin (for SunOS Sparc OS)
Select 'Y' to update your package
3. Restart the Driver Shim:
/etc/init.d/asamcdrv start
Updating the Fan-Out Core Driver on Windows
-------------------------------------------
1. Stop the Fan-Out Driver shim by stopping the Win32 service "Novell Fan-Out Driver"
2. Copy the asamcdrv.exe to C:\Novell\ASAM\bin\CoreDriver\ and replace the existing asamcdrv.exe.
3. Restart the Driver Shim by starting the Win32 service "Novell Fan-Out Driver"
Updating the Fan-Out Platform Services for Linux and Unix
---------------------------------------------------------
1. Stop all Fan-Out Platform Services:
For Linux and Solaris:
/etc/init.d/asampspd stop
/etc/init.d/asamrcvrd stop
/etc/init.d/asampsd stop
For HP-UX and Tru64:
/sbin/init.d/asampspd stop
/sbin/init.d/asamrcvrd stop
/sbin/init.d/asampsd stop
For AIX:
/etc/rc.d/asampspd stop
/etc/rc.d/asamrcvrd stop
/etc/rc.d/asampsd stop
For FreeBSD:
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/asampspd stop
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/asamrcvrd stop
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/asampsd stop
2. Install the update patch:
sh linux_x86_platformservices.bin (for 32-bit Linux)
sh linux_x86_64_platformservices.bin (for 64-bit Linux)
sh solaris_sparc_platformservices.bin (for SunOS Sparc)
sh solaris_x86_platformservices.bin (for SunOS x86)
sh hpux_platformservices.bin (for HP-UX)
sh hpux_ia64_platformservices.bin (for HP-UX Itanium)
sh aix_platformservices.bin (for AIX)
sh tru64_platformservices.bin (for Tru64)
sh freebsd_x86_platformservices.bin (for FreeBSD)
sh debian_x86_platformservices.bin (for Linux Debian)
Select 'Y' to update your package
3. Restart your platform services.
Technical Support Information:
Current Fixes:
- Invalid username/password no longer crashes driver shim.
- Support for DC (domain context) objects.
- Plug-in Search Object page loads faster.
- Platform Receiver detaches from terminal on polling and persistent mode, even when the "-p" and "-i" are not specified.
- Platform Receiver startup script no longer defaults to persistent mode.
Previous Fixes:
- Upgraded OpenSSL to 0.9.8h
- Fixed memory leaks
- Fixed connect timeouts not using the TIMEOUT.CONNECT configured in asamplat.conf.
- Added enhancement: AS.TIMEOUT and AM.TIMEOUT to differentiate between timeout values for asamrcvr and asampsp.
- Fixed agent compatibility mode which would incorrectly return "341 Intruder Lockout" when the new password did not meet certain UP criteria on password changes.
- Corrected Core Driver installation error that may occur on Linux and Solaris, resulting in an error about the schema not being extended.
- Corrected installation error that can occur on AIX platform services.
- Added POLLING mode enhancements to allow for two new directives in asamplat.conf:
POLLINT 300
POLLRAND 600 1200
These two keywords are mutually exclusive. The POLLINT keyword specifies the number of seconds between polling intervals. The POLLRAND keyword specifies the min and max polling intervals (in seconds) from which to choose a random selection to poll. In the example above, POLLRAND 600 1200 will tell the asamrcvr to select a random integer between 600 and 1200 seconds (10 and 20 minutes) for which it will delay until the next time to poll for events.
Both keywords can be used to spread out the amount of traffic and load placed on the core driver during event processing. The default for the POLLING mode is a constant of 5 minutes, which is sometimes too frequent.
These enhancements are particularly useful for large deployments of platforms.
