abstract

491psp4_servicegrouporder_2. is a patch file for the Novell Client v4.91 SP4 for Windows XP/2003. Applying this patch to a 4.91 SP4 machine resolves a problem where SRVLOC.SYS fails to load due to a missing registry entry caused by applying Windows updates. Note: 491psp4_servicegrouporder_2.zip is the same as 491psp4_servicegrouporder.inf which it superceded, except that a .reg file is now provided as another installation method.

details

System Requirements:
This patch is designed to update the Novell Client v4.91 SP4 for Windows XP/2003. Be sure to install only on this version of the client.

Installation:
1. Expand 491psp4_servicegrouporder_2..zip (this file) to a temporary folder.
2. Apply the registry changes by doing ONE of the following while logged on as an Administrators member:
. a) In Windows Explorer, right-click on 491psp4_servicegrouporder.inf and then click on INSTALL.
. b) In Windows Explorer, right-click on 491psp4_servicegrouporder.reg and then click on Merge.
. c) At a Windows command prompt, execute 491psp4_servicegrouporder.reg. Answer "Yes" to confirm the action.
. d) Execute the Windows Registry Editor application (regedit.exe), then import 491psp4_servicegrouporder.reg using the File, Import menu item.

Technical Support Information:
After applying Windows updates, SRVLOC.SYS can experience login failures as a result of SRVLOC.SYS failing to load due to the Windows upgrade removing the "NetWare Services" registry entry. Applying this .INF to a 4.91 SP4 machine, either before or after the machine is actually in the failing state, will re-configure the Novell Client driver load order such that the "NetWare Services" group is no longer used, and therefore its no longer important whether it exists in the list or not. See TID 3256490, "Error: "A network service failed to start" after applying Windows update." (Bug 331231)
