abstract
Updated gipc.nlm to be used with NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 6 or newer to resolve panning id issues.
details
Overview:
GIPC.NLM update to address panning id issues and prevent the cluster panning id from being modified manually or by other applications.
System Requirements:
NetWare 6.5 SP6 or newer, Novell Cluster Services 1.8 or newer.
Installation:
1. Rename the current gipc.nlm in the SYS:\SYSTEM directory on all nodes in the cluster.
2. Copy the new gipc.nlm into the SYS:\SYSTEM directory on all nodes in cluster.
3. Down the entire cluster by executing the uldncs command on each node.
4. After all nodes in the cluster are down, bring each node back into the cluster by executing the ldncs command on each node.
Uninstalling:
Rename or delete the gipc.nlm in SYS:\SYSTEM and revert back to the backup copy of gipc.nlm made in step 1 of the installation.
Known Problems and Limitations:
This patch needs to be applied to all nodes and requires the entire cluster to be restarted.
Technical Support Information:
When a new cluster is installed the panning id for the cluster is generated from the cluster object GUID. This panning id is used to advertise the cluster to its nodes. There are situations where the panning id was being modified after the cluster creation. This caused panning id mismatches between eDirectory and what the cluster was communicating on the LAN. With mismatches, nodes being rebooted would fail to join the cluster with an error: "Join Retry, some other node acquired the cluster lock". This patch will verify that the panning id on the LAN and in eDirectory for the cluster match the objects GUID and then prevent the panning id from being modified manually or by another application.
