Abstract

491psp3_ndppnt.exe is a patch file for the Novell Client v4.91 for Windows 2000/XP/2003 (either unpatched, or with SP1, SP2, or SP3 applied) for Windows 2000/XP/2003. It includes fixes for a security vulnerability with the NDPPNT.DLL module.

Installation Instructions

1. Expand the self-extracting file 491psp3_ndppnt.exe (this file) to a temporary folder.
2. Open the folder.
3. (recommended, but optional) Rename the existing ndppnt.dll (with a .old extension, for example) in the <System_Root>\System32 folder. Do not reboot before proceeding!
4. Install the files by doing one of the following:
   a) Right-Click on _491psp3_ndppnt.inf and then click on INSTALL.
   b) Run the _491psp3_ndppnt.bat file.
   c) Manually copy and replace the existing ndppnt.dll in directory listed in Step 3, above.
5. You will be prompted to reboot. This reboot is required to complete the installation.

== OVERLAYING THE 4.91 SP* INSTALLATION SET ==

The Novell Client files in this package can also be overlaid on top of a Novell Client 4.91 (including SP1, SP2, or SP3) installation set, so that when SETUPNW.EXE is run to install the Novell client you will be installing the core 4.91 SP3 client and the updates contained in this package in one operation.

To update the installation set with the files in this patch set, extract this package to a temporary location, then copy the resultant directory structure over the top of the i386 folder in your Novell Client installation set.

Issue

This version of NDPPNT.DLL fixes the following issues seen with the 4.91 SP3 code:

1. Buffer overflow. See TID 3125538. (211716)

2. No error message when installing NDPS printer with user only rights. This fix introduces a new registry setting. See TID 3745571. (175708)
